Ultimate Renewal
Imagine how Simon Peter felt when Jesus
died. He, James and John were Jesus' closest friends, so they would have been heartbroken
to see their friend die such a horrendous death. But even worse for Peter, because he
betrayed Jesus. Simon Peter, the one Jesus named The Rock, crumbled like chat on the night
Jesus was arrested, denying not once, not twice but three times that he even knew Jesus!
Peter was a failed human but Jesus is in the business of restoring humans.
This month's scripture tells a beautiful story of
renewal. Not just the life-giving fact of His resurrection, which is for all people but a
special mention about Simon Peter. We have no detailed record of it, but sometime after
His resurrection, Jesus made a special appearance to Simon. We can only imagine what
happened at that joyous reunion. No doubt Peter was ashamed, perhaps unable to look his
friend in the eyes. But Jesus probably hugged Peter, told him all was well, and renewed
Simon's sagging heart.
Jesus does the same for you. If you are in need of
renewal, go to Jesus and tell Him what's on your mind, what's tearing at your heart. Read
His word for instructions and guidance. Consult His leaders (pastors, counselors) for wise
counsel. Let the Holy Spirit guide you in prayer. Receive ultimate renewal!! |
