| Un-Forgiveness
-- A Prayer Blocker
(Read James 5:13-18; Romans 3:21-24; Psalm
66:17-20)
"Forgive us our debts, as we
forgive our debtors." Thats in the Lords prayer, of course, but have you
ever noticed that immediately following the Lords prayer is a second admonition to
forgive others?
If you are like me, you'll agree
that the commandment to forgive people whove done us wrong is as appealing as
fingernails scraping down a blackboard. But lack of forgiveness is a sin, a sin that
hinders our communication with God.
The Psalmist says that if he holds
sin in his heart, God will not hear his prayer (Psalm 66:18). Its this holding onto
sin that James is referring to when he said that the prayer of a righteous man is
powerful and effective (James 5:16).
But, you might argue, no one is
righteous. We all sin. Its true that we all sin (Rom. 3:10) but once we confess our
sins and ask Jesus to become the ruler of our lives, we become the "righteousness of
God in Christ." (Rom. 3:21-22) Our sins are forgiven!
When we forgive others, when we
love others as we love ourselves (Matthew 22:37-40), then God will surely listen and hear
our prayers (Psalm 66:19). Let's follow Paul's advice to "lift up holy hands in
prayer, without anger or disputing." (1 Timothy 2:8) |
Guiding Scripture...
Be transformed by the
renewing of your mind.
Romans 12:2
June's
Scripture
Lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or
disputing.
(1 Timothy 2:8)
Write this scripture down
and post it in a frequented area so it will become a part of your mind, your heart, and
your soul. |
If your prayers just don't seem to get beyond the
ceiling, examine to see if there is any sin, especially unforgiveness, that's blocking the
communication between you and God. This is specifically referring to sin that you are
knowingly practicing or clutching onto.
Remember, God will always answer your prayer when you confess your sins, but He may draw
away from you when you cling to your sins. |

Lift up holy hands in
prayer, without anger or disputing!
PRAYER
I admit that I can't
stand the thought of forgiveness. I would much rather see the one who hurt me be eternally
tormented! But that's not what you want from me, Lord. You have forgiven my sins, great
and small, and You have commanded me to do the same to those who have sinned against me.
It's not going to be easy, but I'm coming to You with an open heart and a willingness to
learn Your ways! Thank You for Jesus, who died for my sins!
AMEN! |
